WHY MUST I ORDER STUDENT PACKETS?

Student Packets are a central part of the VBS Reachout curriculum. Having their own student book is a significant part of what makes the materials truly effective in the children's lives. These books include all of their memory work and service projects for the week, their Daily Bible reading, the words to the songs, the full Gospel Presentation, etc. They are the primary avenue of getting the Word into the homes of the community children who attend. We have many children (even ones who are now young adults) who have used this curriculum over the years and have saved every book—they truly become cherished treasures to them. These books also reflect our commitment to strong Biblical teaching, Scripture memory, service and mercy, and personal worship. Because of this, our catalog items, other than Starter Kits and music resources, are not available without a full curriculum order that includes at least 24 Student Packets. (If, however, your VBS is smaller than 24 students, we will be happy to accommodate you.) Need help knowing how many to order? Click here for help with estimating enrollment.

HOW MANY DAYS IS YOUR PROGRAM?

Though successfully adapted for use in a variety of formats, VBS Reachout schools are designed to run as 5-day schools, held for 3 hours a day. Many churches hold VBS Monday through Friday mornings with a Closing Program on Friday evening. With scheduling adjustments, however, our schools can and have been successfully used in evening, day camp, and weekly club venues.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY'S SCHEDULE?

"Backpackers" meet together in small groups within their grade group in homerooms, led by Guides. Throughout the VBS day, they rotate with their grade group through various activities, returning to their homeroom at various points. This gives Guides the opportunity for discipling those in their small group. The following is a sample schedule for one grade group:

15 minutes pre-start Registration
5 minutes Morning Rendezvous (arrival lineup)
25 minutes Setting Up Camp (opening assembly for all in "Base Camp")
30 minutes Trail Blazing (memory work in small groups in "Outposts" [homerooms])
20 minutes Mapping the Route (Bible lesson at Bible Lesson Site)
20 minutes Trail Blazing (Bible lesson application in small groups in Outposts)
20 minutes Trail Break (recreation) or Trail Crafts (crafts) at designated sites
10 minutes Trail Treats (snacks at Snack Site)
20 minutes Trail Blazing or Trail Crafts (memory work & service projects in small groups in Outposts or Craft Site)
30 minutes Breaking Camp (closing assembly for all in Base Camp)

This is only a suggested schedule, which can be adapted to any particular church's needs. Just contact our office for a Coach's help in making adjustments.

WHAT VERSION OF THE BIBLE DO YOU USE?

Our Scripture passages and memory verses are taken from the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible Copyright 1984.

HOW DO 5TH & 6TH GRADERS RESPOND TO THIS CURRICULUM?

Most churches are amazed at how much their 5th & 6th graders love these schools. Attendance in this grade group frequently exceeds expectations! Also, Jr. High and High School students often return as junior staff helpers once they "graduate" from Reachout schools.
